Field Service Maintenance Testing
Southern Alberta's Wind Facilities
REV works with some of the largest wind operators in Western Canada, making us a leading contributor to the renewable platform. With so many wind farms in Southern Alberta it is possible to generate 1514 megawatts of wind power, which now means that wind can generate 15.6% of our total energy.
REV completes annual substation maintenance testing at five of these different windfarm locations in Southern Alberta. 2016’s inspections included equipment maintenance on circuit breakers, transformers and metering equipment. In addition to this, REV performed specialized work when adding an inhibitor to transformer fluid and mineral oil at three of the Alberta wind farm substations. This was a very exciting task for REV as it is not something we perform on a regular basis.
2016 also brought about gas relay, auxiliary relay and battery replacements at each of the five wind farms. With each systematic equipment diagnostic and data review, REV provided recommendations for future enhancements and efficiencies. This allows for each of the wind farms to perform at their best potential, and guarantees seamless maintenance testing in the years to come.
