Oil Circuit Breaker Replacement

Fording River

Fording River in southeastern British Columbia is home to one of many steelmaking coal operations in Western Canada. The coal produced at this operation is used for steel that is exported internationally by sea.

REV was approached to take on the project of replacing the main 138kV breaker at the mine. It became REV’s goal to complete the entire project within a 16-hour time frame in order to avoid shutting down the mine for more than one day.

The existing breaker, which was a HLD live tank breaker with a separate stand for CT’s, was taken out all at once. A new Siemens SPS2 dead tank breaker was installed and fully commissioned. Additionally, REV installed new control cables and trays along with new lighting arresters.

After 16 hours of hard and precise work REV met its desired goal and the mine was up and running shortly after.
